Journalist Hassan Al-Najjar, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Watan Al-Youm, affirmed his categorical rejection of any infringement on the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the unity of its territories, stressing that the “Somaliland” region is an integral part of the Somali state,
and that any unilateral recognition of this region, including what is being raised regarding a potential recognition by Israel, is considered a null and void action that violates the rules of international legitimacy and the United Nations Charter.
Hassan Al-Najjar, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Watan Al-Youm, explained in a press statement to the “News Editing Room” that Egyptian foreign policy is based on firmly established principles, foremost among them respect for the sovereignty of states,
the unity of their territories, and non-interference in their internal affairs, which clearly applies to the Somali situation, warning that any attempts to impose a new fait accompli outside the internationally recognized frameworks would complicate the political and security situations in the Horn of Africa region and threaten its security and stability.
Egypt Supports the Somali State and Its Legitimate National Institutions
The journalist and political thinker stressed Egypt’s full support for the Somali state and its legitimate national institutions, and its standing alongside the Somali government in its efforts to preserve the unity of the country and enhance security and stability, in line with the constants of the Egyptian state and its pivotal role in supporting regional stability and protecting Arab and African national security.
The journalist and political thinker Hassan Al-Najjar also called on the international community to adhere to international legitimacy and United Nations resolutions,
reject any unilateral actions or recognitions, and work to support the political path that preserves Somalia’s unity and spares the region further tensions that do not serve the security of its peoples or their common interests.
